How to Wash a Heating Pad

Save

Heating pads were designed to warm various parts of a person's body to better manage pain. Heating pads can be used by trained physical therapists during a therapy session. They can also be used by individuals in a home setting. After using a heating pad a few times, the heating pad can become dirty and you'll need to clean it.

Things You'll Need

  • Heating pad
  • Washing machine
  • Mild detergent
  • Cold water
  • Remove the cover from the heating pad. Depending on the model you own, you may have to unsnap it, or it may just be Velcro.

  • Turn your washing machine on to small load. Set the water temperature to cold water.

  • Add a mild detergent to the water. The amount depends on the brand of detergent you use, but it should be for a small load of wash.

  • Add your heating pad cover to the washing machine along with a few other items of the same color. You can wash the heating pad cover by itself, but that would be a waste of the water.

  • Hang dry your heating pad cover. Then slip the cover back on the heating pad.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can hand wash or spot clean your heating pad cover with some mild detergent, water, and a toothbrush.
  • Do not use a dryer or the heating pad cover could shrink. This will cause it to no longer fit over the heating pad unit.
  • Never wash the entire heating pad unit. This will ruin it.
