Ribbon embroidery is a beautiful needlework, and it can be worked on many different kinds of fabric. Ribbon embroidery also shows up better than some of the finer thread needlework projects. The roses are unique and rarely seen in thread embroidery. The spiderweb rose is one of the prettiest flower designs.

    Instructions

    Things You'll Need

    • 4mm ribbon
    • Sharp point needle
    • Background fabric
      • 1

Thread the needle with 4mm ribbon in the color of your choice. Use about 15 inches of ribbon and make the recommended eye tie. This is done by threading the needle, pulling the ribbon through 1 inch or so and punching the needle through the ribbon about 1/4 inch from the end. Pull the ribbon back to form a tight tie.

      • 2

Make five spokes coming out from the center point where you want the ribbon rose to be. This is the beginning of the spider web.

      • 3

Work from the center around the five spokes and run the needle under one spoke and over the other. The ribbon embroidery spiderweb rose is starting to take shape.

      • 4

Keep the thread loose and stop to straighten the ribbon when it twists. Ribbon embroidery requires loose work for the best look. You have probably seen it used for quilting, and particularly crazy quilt embellishments.

      • 5

Continue around the spokes with the over and under weaving. Do not punch through the ribbon, but just weave around the spokes. Repeat this until the spokes are full of ribbon. Your ribbon embroidery should look like a rose.

      • 6

Punch through the fabric with the needle at the last spoke and run the ribbon through to the backside of the fabric. Wrap the ribbon around a spoke and make a single knot. Remove the needle by cutting the ribbon at the stopping point. Now you are ready to make some more, or make some leaves around the ribbon embroidery spiderweb rose.
