How to Make Homemade "Italian" Salad Dressing

Romaine lettuce calls out for a dressing that enhances its crisp texture and savory flavor. An Italian-style dressing is easy to make and provides the perfect seasoning to a salad. This recipe calls for balsamic vinegar, but you can substitute regular wine vinegar if desired.

Things You'll Need

  • 1 cup olive oil
  • 1 cup white wine
  • ½ cup balsamic vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons of crushed garlic
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup fresh parsley
  • 1 tablespoon oregano
  • ¼ cup grated Romano cheese
  • Add the olive oil and vinegar to a salad dressing shaker and shake well.

  • Add crushed garlic, salt, pepper, parsley, oregano, white wine and grated Romano to the dressing shaker.

  • Shake vigorously for about five minutes. If the dressing separates, shake it for an additional two minutes.

  • Serve this homemade dressing over romaine lettuce, a diced hard-boiled egg, onions and a few garlic croutons.
  • Homemade dressing keeps up to a week in your refrigerator.
