Removing underarm hair can be a nuisance. Shaving or using hair removal cream provides a temporary and quick solution, but you will need to repeat the process every few days. Sugaring is a hair removal process that you can do easily with things from your home. The process uses a natural paste made from ingredients from your kitchen. It is different from waxing because it is less painful, results can last up to 4 weeks and it is mess free. Like waxing, it removes the hair at the root.
Things You'll Need
- 2 cups white cane sugar
- 1/4 cup lemon juice
- 1/4 cup water
- Cloth strips
Squeeze juice from two lemons and strain it to get rid of the pulp and the seeds. (You could use lemon juice concentrate instead of fresh lemons.)
Mix sugar, lemon juice and water in a heavy saucepan over medium-high heat. Keep stirring the mixture to avoid it burning or sticking to the bottom of the pan.
After the mixture starts boiling, turn the heat to low. Simmer for 20 minutes. Keep an eye on the sugaring mixture as it changes color and darkens. When it is dark amber in color, remove it from the heat and let it cool for about 15 minutes.
Prepare the underarm skin by using a cleansing lotion and applying some baby powder. The baby powder helps the paste to stick more to the hair and less to the skin.
Pinch some sugaring mix with your fingers. It will be like a big blob in your hand. Start rolling it in your palm into a ball, which creates enough heat to make the application easier.
Apply the mixture firmly in a thin layer on your underarm skin in the opposite direction of hair growth. You also could use a dull knife or a flat wooden stick to apply the mixture.
Put a cloth strip over the mixture and press firmly. Pull the cloth strip quickly in the same direction of the hair growth to avoid any breakage of the hair follicles. This provides long-lasting results and avoids any ingrown hairs.
Repeat the process until you remove all the hair.
Use a damp cloth to clean your underarm. The mixture washes away easily with water.
