I love Chicago. I love being in Chicago. I love doing ALL kinds of things in Chicago. BUT..to BE in Chicago I gotta get there and that means DRIVING in Chicago traffic.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • maps
  1. Step 1

    Know your exact destination.

  2. Step 2

Go to your favorite map website and print out maps of the area and the surrounding area. Get detailed maps. Do not use the direction guides. Use a highlighter to mark your route.

  3. Step 3

Just before you hit the city, stop for gas and the restroom. Once you get into the traffic, you will not want to stop.

  4. Step 4

Drive 5 miles per hour above the speed limit and NO MORE. Cars will be whizzing by you and zooming around you and cutting you off. Pay them no mind. Stay in the far right lane or the one just to the left of it.

  5. Step 5

Keep your distance from the car in front. Not only do you not want to hit them but you also want to be able to go around them if traffic should stop. You do not want to feel trapped.

  6. Step 6

Lock your doors. Keep your windows up.

  7. Step 7

If you can travel with a companion all the more better. It's best if someone is watching signs, exits, etc because they do come up fast and you may have to make quick decisions.

Tips & Warnings
  • Relax, enjoy the ride
  • Don't get in a hurry
  • Don't freak out if traffic should jam. Look for an alternate route on your maps.
  • People fly low. They drive at wild speeds and they may get pissed if you are in their way. Stay steady on the wheel, don't react to honking horns or being cut off abruptly.
