How to Write a Report Cover Page

A cover page for a report is important. It is the first part of a report that the reader will see, so it should be clear, concise and eye-catching. While there is no specific way of formatting a cover page, it should look professional and clean and list a few details of factual and pertinent information. Cover pages should list the report's title, author and date of publication. Other information may be included, such as the name of the company or academic area affiliated with the report or the place of publication.

Instructions

    • 1

Make sure that the cover page is a separate page from the rest of the report. It should be the first page of the report. It should not have a page number.

    • 2

Use a professional font for the text on the cover page, like Times New Roman or Arial. Do not use script or fonts that look like handwriting.

    • 3

Place the full title of the report near the middle of the page. Center the title.

    • 4

Format the title where all the main words are capitalized. Make the title font size larger than the rest of the text on the page.

    • 5

Place the author's name a few lines under the title. List all authors of the report. Separate the authors' names with commas or semicolons. Authors' names can be preceded with "by" and a colon, but this is not a requirement.

    • 6

Add the date of publication a few lines under the author's name. Include the month (spelled out), day and year of publication.

    • 7

List affiliations, if necessary. It may be necessary to list the name of the company or university that sponsored the report, for example.
