Step 1
Download and install Yahoo Messenger from the Yahoo website (See Resources.) Launch Yahoo Messenger and click the yellow button that says "Start Adding Friends" on the set-up wizard.

Select which address books you would like to import your contacts from. These include Yahoo Mail, Microsoft Outlook, AOL and much more. Enter your log-in information after you have selected an email service, then click "Continue." This menu can also be accessed by clicking on the "Contacts" tab on Yahoo Messenger and selecting "Import Contacts."

Step 3
Choose the contacts you want to invite to chat with on Yahoo Messenger. Enter what you would like the invitation message to say and click "Continue." Click "Import More Contacts" if you would like to go back to the contact menu, or click "Close" to exit.

Besides importing contacts, it is also possible to find and make numerous friends in the Yahoo chat rooms. Sign in to Yahoo Messenger and click the "Messenger" option on the top toolbar. Select "Yahoo! Chat" and click "Join a Room."

Choose a category and room, then click "Join Room." On the right side of the chat window will be a list of all the members who are in the chat room. Right click on a contact and select "Add to Messenger List." Enter how you want their name to appear on your contact list and what category they will be listed under.
