How to Inject the Leg With Steroids for Pain

Pain in the leg may not necessarily result from an accident or trauma. It can be caused by other factors such as tendonitis or back pain extending into the legs. Such chronic cases can be treated by injecting steroids into the muscle of the affected leg. An injectable steroid relieves the pain and inflammation caused by the pressure on the nerves transmitting to the leg region. Tendonitis caused by the overuse of the tendon following strenuous exercises can be relieved by the steroid injected in the region surrounding the affected joint (not directly on the tendon).

Things You'll Need

• Steroid vial
• Needle (22 gauge)
• Liquid disinfectant
• Cotton

Instructions

1. Wash your hands with an antiseptic soap and wipe the affected region with spirit.

2. Break the vial with the gentle blow of a sharp object (taking care that the broken glass does not enter the solution), and take the solution into the syringe. If there are any air bubbles in the syringe, tap the syringe with finger.

3. Insert the needle (up to half the length of needle) at 90 degrees into the leg muscle. First aspirate and see if any blood is drawn, and then inject the solution. If blood is drawn on aspiration, get a fresh syringe and vial of injectable steroid for injection.
