Lace wigs and lace front wigs are full wigs that have a strip of lace netting jutting out from under the hairline of the wig. When attached properly with adhesive, it is difficult to tell that a wig is being worn.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Liquid adhesive
  • Small brush (makeup brush or paint brush)
  • Lace release/spirit gum remover/adhesive remover/alcohol

    Preparation

  1. Step 1

Begin with a clean area, with all the items you will be using within easy reach.

  2. Step 2

Your face should be clean and dry before you begin.

  3. Step 3

Your hair should already be up under the wig, making sure the wig anchors properly.

  4. Applying the Adhesive

  5. Step 1

Lift the lace away from the skin.

  6. Step 2

Apply a thin layer of adhesive across the forehead just before the hairline, and extending the width of the lace netting.

  7. Step 3

Pat the line of adhesive with a clean finger until your finger starts to stick to it. It is important that the adhesive is sticky before you press the lace netting onto it or it will not hold.

  8. Step 4

Press the lace netting onto the adhesive. Apply constant pressure until the lace netting stays in place on its own.

Be patient, this may take some time.

  9. Step 5

Continue this way, moving out from the center until all of the lace netting is attached to your skin.

  10. Removing the Adhesive

  11. Step 1

Do not pull the lace or attempt to force it off; it will cause the lace to stretch or tear and damage the hairpiece.

Using a small brush similar to the one used to apply the adhesive (if it is the same brush used to apply the adhesive, make sure it has been cleaned and all adhesive has been removed before you begin), apply the lace release, adhesive remover, or alcohol to the area with the adhesive, by gently brushing over it.

Do not scrub back and forth or use a heavy hand, or you will tear the lace netting.

Give it a few moments to neutralize and loosen the adhesive.

  12. Step 2

Once the adhesive has been loosened it will begin to lift off the skin.

As the lace netting lifts on its own, slip the brush under it, without lifting, to add some remover to the underside.

Keep applying the remover from both directions until all of the netting has lifted from your skin.

  13. Step 3

Cleanse your face with your normal products.

Tips & Warnings
  • Apply adhesive thinly. Heavy, or too many layers of adhesive will create a line of adhesive that is visible even under the best of makeup.
  • Some people may be allergic to the adhesive or the remover. Do a skin patch test as directed on the containers of the adhesive and remover 12 to 24 hours before using for the first time or if more than a year has passed from the last time you used the products. Do not use if you have a positive result.
