The iPhone stores all text messages on its hard drive for convenient access at any time. Sending text messages from the iPhone is an extremely simple task and takes just a few moments to complete.

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Open the Messages application by clicking on its icon.

  2. Step 2

Click on the "New Message" icon at the top right-hand corner of the screen.

  3. Step 3

Enter the recipient's telephone number in the "To" field using the iPhone's keyboard. If the recipient's phone number is stored in your iPhone's contact list, you can type the contact's name in the "To" field instead.

  4. Step 4

Enter the text of your message in the space below the recipient's name or number.

  5. Step 5

Click on the blue "Send" button on the right side of the screen to send the message. A status bar will appear at the top of the screen that says "Sending" and will show your message's progress. When the message has been sent successfully, it will open a new screen that displays all messages sent back and forth between you and this particular recipient.

  6. Step 6

Repeat this process to send text messages to other recipients.

Tips & Warnings
  • When you open the Messages application, your screen will display a list of all text messages you have sent in the past, arranged by recipient's name. To send a text message to a recipient already on this list, simply click on their name and then begin typing your message. To delete a text message after it has been sent, click on the recipient's name and then click "Edit" in the top right-hand corner of the screen. Then click on whichever text message you want to remove and select "Delete." To delete an entire recipient's text message history, open up the Messaging application and select "Edit" from the top left-hand corner of the screen. Then click on the recipient's name and select "Delete." When not in use, the Messages application icon will display the total number of unread incoming text messages in red font on the top of the icon. When starting a new text message, you can add multiple recipients by clicking "Return" after each recipient and then adding a new recipient.
