How to Curl Hair With a GHD Styler

All GHD hair stylers function as a straightener and a curling iron in one. These products also protect your hair from heat damage by beeping when the product has become too hot from being left on for too long. If you forget to turn the styler off, it will automatically shut off after 30 minutes of not being used. GHD products can be purchased online or in beauty supply stores. An instructional DVD is included. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Choose the GHD styler that works best for your hair. Wider plates are available for long, thick and extra-curly hair, and mini plates are available for traveling or for short, wispy hair. They also come in different colors and patterns.

    • 2

Shampoo and condition your hair with smoothing products to fight frizz. Air dry or use a blow dryer, combing the hair downward as you dry.

    • 3

Turn the GHD styler on and allow it to heat up for at least a minute.

    • 4

Section off a piece of hair to curl, and clamp the plates around this hair while holding the styler vertically to your head. Place it as close to your scalp as possible without burning yourself.

    • 5

As you pull the styler down this section of hair, rotate it 180 degrees away from your head. The slower you turn and pull, the tighter the curl will be. Once you reach the end of that section, release and begin a new section.

    • 6

If you are unhappy with the curl, try another section and allow this section to cool before trying again. For a more natural curl, hold the iron horizontally to your head and rotate 180 degrees as you pull the hair through.

    • 7

When all of the sections are complete, turn off the iron and spray your hair with hairspray to keep the curls in place.
