Make a Jonah Craft from a Recycled Soda Bottle

Making crafts is a wonderful way to bond with your children while teaching them the building blocks of faith. Hands-on activities make Bible stories memorable and exciting. Try this Jonah and the Big Fish craft with your kids. This recycled soda bottle project is also suitable for Sunday school classes and Bible schools.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

First, poke two holes in the top of the soda or water bottle. The holes should be fairly close together. Take two or three blue or white pipe cleaners and thread them through the holes. Twist the stems to secure the pipe cleaners and then shape them into spirals to look like water coming out of a whale's blow hole.

  2. Step 2

Cut blue yarn into short segments to make water and fill the bottle with it. Cut out fish shapes from orange construction paper and put those in the bottle as well. Shake it to mix. Optionally, you can also add glitter for decoration.

  3. Step 3

Cut out a small paper man or make one out of pipe cleaners. Make sure he can fit inside of the bottle. This will be Jonah in the belly of the fish.

  4. Step 4

Use adhesive-backed foam to cut out fins and a tail. Stick the foam to the bottle. Add eyes. Your Jonah craft is complete!
