How to Print a Document in PDF Format

Whether you are surfing the Internet for official documents and forms issued by a company or reading up on your favorite music or television celebrity, you are likely to come across URL links to documents in PDF format. If you need hard copies of these documents, it is helpful to learn how to print these PDF files.

        Open the PDF file you want to print. In the upper left hand corner, click once on the "File" tab. A pull down menu will appear.

        Click on the "Print" option. A gray Print panel will pop up. If you have more than one printer hooked up to your computer, select the one you want to print your PDF document from.

        Under "Paper Scaling Options," choose how you want the document to print. The default is set to "Shrink to Printable Area." Other options are "Fit to Printable Area," "Multiple pages per sheet," and "Booklet Printing."

        Choose the number of copies. Check to make sure you have enough pieces of paper in your printer tray for the total number of copies you want to print. Click "OK." Retrieve your document from the printer output tray.

    Tips & Warnings

    • If you don't have any Adobe Reader program installed on your computer, you should still be able to read and print documents in PDF format. The file, however, will be a Read Only file that you will not be able to edit. Also, if you need more than one copy but are not sure how it will look, print one copy first. Choose a different paper scaling option if necessary the print out additional copies.
