How to Create Your Own Christmas Cards

Create three-dimensional Christmas cards with a variety of themed materials. Children, adults and groups can spend a few hours making these one-of-a-kind cards. Package a few of them together, tied with a pretty red organza ribbon, to give as gifts or sell at fund-raising events. Use materials that can be purchased on sale or clearance during the year or recycle supplies that might otherwise be thrown away. No artistic ability is required and a little imagination will go a long way.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase cardstock at an office supply store, such as Office Depot. Cut them on a paper cutter into 10-by-7-inch sheets. Fold each sheet in half to make a 5-by-7-inch blank card. It will fit into an A-7 size envelope. Make as many blank cards as desired for this project.

    • 2

Using scissors, cut 4-inch circles from themed decorative paper. Using a glue stick, apply glue to the back of the cutouts and press them onto the front of the blank cards in a random fashion.

    • 3

Attach gold cord strips from the top of the circles to the top of the card with hot glue. Cut 4-inch strips of gold cord and make little bows. Hot glue them on the circles where the cords end.

    • 4

Embellish the card with dimensional paint and add peel-and-stick foam images, letters or numbers.

    • 5

Using a calligraphy pen, write "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Holidays" inside each card.

    • 6

Another way to make the Christmas card is to cut a long triangle from mat board 6 inches high by 4 inches wide. Spray it with fake white snow. Let it dry and attach it to the front of the blank card. Embellish as desired.
