How to Make Father's Day Candy Bar Wrappers

Creating something special to show your dad you care for Father's Day is even better when it involves something he can enjoy, as well as treasure. Replacing traditional candy bar wrappers with a personalized one is a terrific way to use your imagination to let him know how much you appreciate him, particularly if he has a sweet tooth. This can accompany another gift or serve as the only gift for your dad, depending on your budget. Kids of any age can make their father a personalized candy bar wrapper for Father's Day.

Things You'll Need

• Candy bars
• Paper
• Glue stick
• Graphics software
• Printer
• Pens
• Markers

Instructions

Using a Computer

1. Purchase candy bars that have an outer wrapper that can be removed without affecting the inner wrapper or the actual candy bar. Remove the outer wrapper, lay it flat and measure it.

2. Create a blank document in your graphics software program the same size as the original wrapper. Fill the background with the color of your choice. Make a simple border around the center of the document that will serve as the top of the candy bar.

3. Add clipart, such as a tie or the logo of his favorite football team, or a photograph to the center of the design. Type your message, such as "I love you dad!" or "Happy Father's Day!" in the blank space.

4. Make an ingredients box on one of the remaining blank sections. Use something like "Love 100%" or any other quality you love most about your dad. List as many as you'd like. Include a note on the bottom if you wish stating "Made with love by (your name)."

5. Print out your wrapper. Cut out the image on the paper, following the lines. Wrap the paper around the candy bar and glue the edges together creating a snug fit.

By Hand

1. Purchase candy bars that have an outer wrapper that can be removed without affecting the inner wrapper or the actual candy bar. Remove the outer wrapper, lay it flat on top of the paper you are using for the candy bar wrapper and trace it using a pencil.

2. Cut out the part you'll actually use for the wrapper. Fold it around the candy bar to create natural creases.

3. Draw a picture or design on the section of paper that will become the top of the wrapper. Use stencils, pens, markers, stickers or any embellishments you wish.

4. Write your message on the wrapper. Express your love and appreciation for your dad, and include the year so he can treasure it long after the candy has been consumed.

5. Wrap the candy bar with your wrapper and glue the edges together. Give it to your dad on Father's Day.

Tips & Warnings

• Let younger children create their own wrappers using construction paper. Cut out the ingredients panel from the original wrapper and tape it to the inside of your wrapper if your father may have allergies or want the nutritional information for any reason.

• Scissors should be used by older children or with adult supervision only.
