You thought that dying your hair a darker color would make you look dark and mysterious but instead of sleek and sultry you look more goth and creepy. Luckily, lightening the permanent color may be easier than you think. With a dye removal kit and a few items from the kitchen you'll have your locks lightened in no time.

Things You'll Need:

  • Hair dye removal kit
  • Hair dye in your desired shade

The natural oils in the scalp with protect the head from harsh chemicals. The removal kit will strip away all color leaving the hair a light, brassy shade.

  2. Step 2

Wait one day and apply the hair dye following all instructions in the kit. Thoroughly rinse all dye from the hair and scalp using warm water.

  3. Step 3

Wash your hair with shampoo and conditioner for color treated hair. Leave the conditioner on the hair for two minutes before rinsing. Style hair as desired.

  4. Step 4

Combine water and lemon juice in a spray bottle. Spray a small amount of the solution on the hair before going out in direct sunlight. Wash the solution out after about 30 minutes. Repeat this process to create natural looking highlights.
