How to Reduce Fines On Traffic Citations
Traffic citations don't have to strain your wallet or bank account. Although the fine for these citations is based on the severity of the traffic violation and the state you live in, you may be able to have the fine reduced if you can prove a financial hardship. The traffic citation will still be listed on your driving record even if the fine is reduced. It's up to the court to decide whether or not to reduce the fine.

1
Accept that you committed the traffic violation. A magistrate will be more open to listening to your reasons for requesting a fine reduction if you admit guilt.
-
2
Make an appointment with the magistrate in your district. Take your citation, photo ID and any information showing you have a financial hardship. Records of mortgage and car payments, credit cards, tuition, child care and medical bills can all help solidify your case for a fine reduction.

3
Explain your situation in a clear, concise way. Detail why you are requesting a fine reduction. Refrain from restating yourself excessively. Stick with the facts and speak in a concerned manner to help the magistrate understand your situation.
