Whether going out for a night on the town or preparing for another day at work, knowing how to properly apply eyeshadow can make all the difference in your outfit. The same basic principles will apply whether you're putting on eyeshadow to get a subtle, sultry effect, to look professional or to make a major impression. Putting on eyeshadow the right way is a simple, easy task that can be accomplished in a few minutes.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Blunt eyeshadow brush
  1. Step 1

Apply foundation and mascara first. Apply foundation lightly, so that the skin tone of your eyelids is even. Next put on mascara, so it won't leave black marks in your completed eyeshadow.

  2. Step 2

Start with the lightest color you're going to use and apply it lightly to your entire eyelid from the lash line to just below the brow bone. The color should be subtle and almost invisible, especially if it is a neutral or skin-toned color.

  3. Step 3

Apply a light matte or shimmery shade next from the middle of the eye below the brow to the edge of the eye; this will highlight your eyes and brow bone. Add the darkest color you are using, sweeping it lightly from your lash line to the crease and blend it gently.

  4. Step 4

Carefully blend all colors towards the outside corner of your eyes without smearing them together. Blending will create a natural transition from your skin tone to your eyeshadow.

Tips & Warnings
  • After applying eyeshadow, add a thin line of eyeliner in a complementary color to your eyeshadow palette to make your eyes stand out even more.
