How to Remove Thick Oil From Hair

Oily hair can be caused by a number of things, such as intense heat, hormonal changes, excess sebum on the scalp, medication side effects, greasy foods and even stress. Some hair treatments also contain an excess of grease that you may eventually want to get out your hair. Washing your hair thoroughly is common sense, but if the oil is thick then washing your hair in the shower may not remove all of the oil. Does this Spark an idea?

  • 1/2 cup lemon juice
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tbsp. degreasing dish liquid

Instructions

      Resist using any hair products or applying chemicals to your hair when there is particularly thick oil in the hair. Wash out any hair spray, gel or other product from your hair at least a day before trying to remove the thick oil.

      Add 1/2 cup of lemon juice and 1 cup of cool water to a bowl. Mix the two ingredients together thoroughly with a spoon. Apply this mixture to your hair and deep into your scalp to remove thick oil.

      Add 2 tbsp. of degreasing dish liquid to a squirt of your shampoo. Lather the mixture into your hair and leave it in for five minutes. Rinse out the mixture with cool running water, and then use a conditioner.

      Use a smoothing serum while your hair is still wet. You can find smoothing serum, which contains silicone, at your local hair care store. Rub the serum deep into your scalp and let it sit for at least five minutes.

      Wash your hair thoroughly with cool running water and comb out the serum while rinsing. Dry your hair and wait a half hour to check your hair to make sure all of the oil is removed. Repeat the process the next time you shower if there is still excess oil in your hair.
