If you have never really worn mascara and are wondering how to get started this article is for you. It will walk you through how to correctly apply mascara.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • mascara
  • make-up remover
  • mirror
  1. Step 1

Find mascara that will match your skin tones well. The best colors to enhance your eyes would be black, dark grey, or dark brown. In the beginning try different mascara brands. It may take you a few times to find a mascara brand that your really like. Waterproof and smudge proof mascara are best to use. They don't smear.

  2. Step 2

Now that you have picked a tube of mascara it is time to apply it! First tip is that when you open your mascara do NOT pump your mascara to get more mascara on your brush. Pumping your mascara brush pushes air into the mascara tube and you will find that the mascara will dry up. Instead, simply insert your mascara brush and scrape the sides of the tube with the brush. Once mascara is on the brush it is time to apply it to your eye lashes.

  3. Step 3

When applying mascara to your eyelashes try your very hardest not to blink. Blinking will create a huge mess. You will have mascara all over your eyes and face if you blink. Getting close to a mirror and having both hands free will help with applying the mascara without blinking. Also, looking up, like you are trying to see your forehead will help to keep your eyes wide open making application easier.

  4. Step 4

Brush on the mascara sweeping from the root of you eyelashes to the ends. Do the top first and then the bottom lashes. It takes several sweeps with the brush to coat your eyelashes throughly. You will find that in time it will get easier not to blink. It takes time for your eyes to get used to mascara application.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you do get mascara all over your eyes and face while trying to apply use make-up remover. Water is not effective in getting mascara off.
  • Be careful not to get the mascara on your clothing. It doesn't come out very well, if at all.
