How to Find a Tricare Provider

Tricare is the military health care plan that is available to all service men and women, active duty, retired or reserves. Tricare defines a provider as "any doctor or team of doctors, nurse-practitioner or physician's assistant; a laboratory; an ambulance company; or a supplier of medical equipment." This guide will show you how to find a medical treatment facility provider, a network provider, Tricare authorized provider medicare provider and an overseas provider in your area.

  1. Find a Medical Treatment Facility

      Go to the Tricare.mil website (see References).

      Enter information into any of the fields to help determine your area. The filter will provide results below. For overseas beneficiaries, enter your country to find the closest Medical Treatment Facility.

      Choose from the list of medical treatment facilities in your desired area. If a Medical Treatment Facility is not within a suitable distance for you, call the closest facility to locate the nearest network or Tricare authorized provider.

    Find a Network Provider

      For the North Region, go to the North Region website listed in Resources and input your data into the information fields to filter results for a provider. Choose your provider.

      For the South Region, go to the South Region website listed in Resources, and choose how you would like to find your provider from the options listed. Input data describing your location or search terms to get filtered provider results. Choose your provider.

      For the West Region, go to the West Region website listed in Resources, and choose how you would like to search for your provider. Input data describing your location or search terms to get filtered provider results and choose your provider.

    Find a Tricare Authorized Provider

      Search the yellow pages for a Tricare authorized provider or use the American Medical Association (AMA) website listed References.

      Call providers to ensure that they will accept your health care plan.

      Choose your provider.

    Find a Medicare Provider

      Go to the Medicare provider website listed in References or call (800) 633-4227.

      Click on Find a Physician or Find other Healthcare Professionals based on your need, or give this information over the phone.

      Enter or give information to get filtered results of providers in your area. Choose your provider.

Tips & Warnings

  • Know your sponsor's social security number, as you may be asked to provide this information.

  • Call Tricare before seeing an outside provider. Referrals are needed to see any outside-network care and most specialty physicians.
