Waterbed conditioner is a must have for any waterbed owner to kill microbes and bacteria that can eat away at an expensive waterbed mattress. Why pour good money down the drain with costly commercial conditioners when you can make your own at home? You won't need much--a scant ½ cup of home conditioner will keep your queen-size waterbed trouble free for half a year. Instructions

    • 1

Put on latex gloves to avoid getting any of the chemical on your hands. Measure ¼ cup of sodium thiosulfate into a clean and dry 1-quart canning jar. Use a paper disposable funnel to avoid spilling the powder.

    • 2

Measure three cups of room-temperature distilled water into the jar. Stir the mixture well with a wooden spoon.

    • 3

Seal the jar with the lid and band. Shake the mixture well, until all of the powder dissolves.

    • 4

Label the jar as waterbed conditioner, and write the date it was prepared. Write the words "Do Not Ingest" in permanent marker on the label.

    • 5

Treat your waterbed as needed using about ½ cup solution for a queen-size bed. Use about ¾ cup solution to treat a king-size bed.

    • 6

Reseal the bottle after each application. Wrap the sealed bottle in a plastic bag, and store it in a cool, dry place between uses.
