How to Get a Website Domain for Free

A domain name is the first thing visitors see when they enter your website. Domain names can either be purchased or they can be claimed for free. You can have your own free domain name in as little as 10 minutes.

Instructions

      Visit the Office Live website. Click on "Create a Free Website" on the home page.

      Enter your email address in the space provided and then click "Next."

      Choose a password for your account. Be sure that it is secure and includes letters and numbers. The password for your account is case-sensitive, meaning capital and lowercase letters will matter.

      Enter your state/province, country/region, ZIP/postal code, secret security question, security answer, and an alternate email address. Click "Save and Continue."

      Enter your personal information including your first and last name, organization name (if applicable), type of organization, and the number of employees of that organization. Click "Save and Continue."

      Enter the displayed letters. If you cannot see them, either click the audio button or refresh the image. Click "Save and Continue."

      Read and accept Microsoft Office Live's account benefits, service agreement and privacy statement.

      Activate your account by clicking on the link provided in the email sent to you by Office Live.

      Under "Get Started," click "Get a Domain." Click on "Rename your free Office Live Domain." Read the consequences and click OK. Rename your domain name and then click "Save." You now have your own free domain name.
