1. MAKE OR EMAIL THE INVITATIONS -- The first step in throwing a party is inviting people! So that's the first place you start saving money! If you send party invitations by snail mail, make your own invitations. There are many online sites where you can print invitations for free. Just do a search for "print free invitations" and you will find many sources. If you really want to save money, send online invitations or simply send an email!

2. MAKE THE DECORATIONS -- You don't need to get too fancy with decorations to make it look festive. All you need are a few streamers and balloons. Save money by skipping the helium balloons and just blow up some balloons yourself then hang then from lamps or pin them in the corners of the room. Hang a few colorful streamers and you're done!

3. MAKE YOUR OWN CAKE -- No one cares if you are a gourmet cook. They just want to eat cake! Save money by making your own cake. Can't bake? Ask a friend to make a cake for you!

4. SET A FESTIVE TABLE -- The table is the centerpiece of the party. Cover the table with a colorful tablecloth and put the cake in the center. Don't have a tablecloth? Use a sheet! And don't spend on fancy paper plates. The cheap white paper plate will do just fine!

5. PLAY GAMES -- Your cheap party will be a big hit as long as you have games to play... and not computer games! You can play the usual games like Pin the Tail on the Donkey or Musical Chairs or look online for "party games" or other ideas.
