How to Connect a Laptop to an LCD TV

Connecting a laptop to LCD TV allows you to use a TV screen as a computer monitor or simply watch a movie played on your laptop. LCD TVs have HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) input that is the latest digital multimedia standard. The laptop will have DVI (Digital Video Interface) video card output.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • HDMI to DVI-D cable
  1. Step 1
    TV HDMI port.
     
    TV HDMI port.

    Plug the HDMI connector of the cable into the HDMI port of your TV.

  2. Step 2
    DVI port
     
    DVI port

    Insert the DVI connector of the cable into the computer DVI port.

  3. Step 3

    Tune up your TV on the HDMI channel.

  4. Step 4

    On a Windows Vista computer, right-click on Desktop and choose "Personalize." Then click "Display Settings." You will see two icons denoted as "1" and "2" that correspond to two monitors.

  5. Step 5

    Click on the icon "2." Check the box "Extend the desktop onto this monitor" and click "OK." The computer desktop will appear on your TV in one to three seconds.
