How to Connect a Laptop to an LCD TV

Connecting a laptop to LCD TV allows you to use a TV screen as a computer monitor or simply watch a movie played on your laptop. LCD TVs have HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) input that is the latest digital multimedia standard. The laptop will have DVI (Digital Video Interface) video card output.

Things You'll Need

  • HDMI to DVI-D cable
  • Plug the HDMI connector of the cable into the HDMI port of your TV.

  • Insert the DVI connector of the cable into the computer DVI port.

  • Tune up your TV on the HDMI channel.

  • On a Windows Vista computer, right-click on Desktop and choose "Personalize." Then click "Display Settings." You will see two icons denoted as "1" and "2" that correspond to two monitors.

  • Click on the icon "2." Check the box "Extend the desktop onto this monitor" and click "OK." The computer desktop will appear on your TV in one to three seconds.
