How to Drain the Radiator on a Chevrolet Impala
The radiator in your Chevrolet Impala requires regular changing of the fluid to prevent corrosion and damage to the tank. Old radiator coolant in the Impalas system can create destructive impurities in the fluid, causing your engine to overheat and destroying the radiator as well as your engine if allowed to go too long between changes. To prevent corrosion and other damage, change the coolant in your radiator approximately every 3 months, depending on the season and amount of driving you do.

Locate the drain plug on the bottom of the radiator or your Chevrolet Impala. Place a drain pan on the ground directly under the drain plug.

Lift the radiator cap off the top of the radiator with a clean, dry rag, checking to verify that it is cooled enough to keep the fluid from boiling out. Locate the cap on the coolant overflow tank on the passenger side of the engine and remove it as well.

Open the drain valve on the bottom of the radiator with an open-end wrench and allow the coolant to drain completely into the drain pan.

Locate the coolant return line from the transmission that is connected to the bottom of the radiator next to the drain valve. Remove the coolant return line from the radiator with an open-end wrench and allow the coolant to drain into the pan.

Close off the drain valve with the open-end wrench and then insert the coolant return line from the transmission back into the radiator and tighten with the open-end wrench.

Remove the drain pan from under the Chevrolet Impala and dispose of the drained fluid at your local recycling center or automotive supply center.
