How to Make Smileys in Chat Rooms

There is a lot that can be told through emotions, even though sometimes you may not be able to express your emotions to someone face to face. For situations like instant messaging and chat rooms, you will need to know how to form smiley faces or emoticons to express your happiness. These are not difficult to create, as only a few buttons on the keyboard are needed to form a smiley face.

Instructions

1. Check to see if the chat room you are in has a list of emoticons that you can choose from. If it does, select the smiley that you would like to use in the chat.

2. Press the colon key, then the closed parenthesis key, to form a :) face. This is the standard way to manually form a smiley face. Press the hyphen key in between the colon and parentheses to form a nose. This will form a :-) face.

3. Press the semicolon key, hyphen key and closed parenthesis key to form a winking face. This will look like ;-).

4. Press the number 8, the hyphen key and the closed parenthesis key to form a smile with sun glasses. This will look like 8-).

5. Press the colon, hyphen, and the letter p keys together to form a smile with the tongue sticking out. This will look like :-p. Change the colon to a semicolon to form a winking smile with the tongue out ;-p.

6. Press the colon key and capital D key to form a wide smiley face. This will look like :D. Press the hyphen key to add a nose.

• Press enter or the send button to send your smiley in the chat room or in a text message.
