Motivational speakers are people who can arouse intense emotion using only their words and body language. People are generally inspired by others who have overcome adversity such as financial hardships or loss of a loved one, or by someone who has achieved great success like Bill Gates or Laura Bush. Still, anyone who has the desire and determination to succeed can be a motivational speaker---no higher education or formal training required.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Be passionate about your subject. According to Martin J. Grunder, author of "The 9 Super Simple Steps to Entrepreneurial Success," to be the very best you can be at a particular job, to achieve a goal and to be successful, you must love what you do!

  2. Step 2

Know your competition. Sit in on other motivational seminars and take notes. Don't be afraid to approach the speaker with any questions afterward. People are generally inclined to help others. Also listen to some of the great speakers such as Brian Tracy and Zig Ziglar.

  3. Step 3

Create a high-impact promotional packet that includes your biography, a photograph, information about your niche, client testimonials and any other pertinent information. Distribute to everyone you know---and everyone you don't know!

  4. Step 4

Develop an aggressive marketing strategy that utilizes different types of media such as newspapers, magazines, television and Internet. The more someone sees your name, the more likely they are to remember you and possibly hire you in the future.

  5. Step 5

Produce tangible marketing materials that you can distribute and that people can purchase. Make sure to brand everything with your image and information.

  6. Step 6

Contact nonprofit organizations such as your local Rotary Club, library or church, and offer to present a free program. Speaking in front of small groups will help improve your self-confidence and will look great on your résumé.

  7. Step 7

Believe in yourself, work your way up to paying clients and be unstoppable!
