When the factory head unit in your Saab fails, it's time to install a new unit. The head unit drives the factory speakers. Since the factory unit contains an internal amplifier, make sure your new unit also contains an internal amplifier. This can be verified by checking the new unit's specifications on the box it comes packaged in. Installing an aftermarket head unit in a Saab is a simple procedure that requires no special tools and five minute's worth of time. After you have removed the old unit, you need to know how to install the new one.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Plug the antenna cable into the back of the new head unit. The antenna cable looks like an over-sized female A/V cable that plugs into the back of the new head unit in the input jack labeled for the antenna.

  2. Step 2

Plug the 6-pin electrical connector into the back of the head unit. The Saab uses a 6-pin electrical connector to control the head unit. This factory plug needs to be plugged into the back of the new head unit in the 6-pin slot.

  3. Step 3

Slide the new head unit into place until it locks. The units made for Saabs use a self-locking mechanism to secure the head unit to the cage in the dash. Push the unit in until it clicks, indicating it is locked into place.
