You can testify in front of Congress on all types of community and business subjects that Congress is making a decision on. If you would like to bring your cause to the attention of Congress you can. When the Congress is not familiar with a particular subject, they find testimonies essential to give them the information they need to give a decision. Here is how you can testify in front of Congress.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    You need to write a letter to the committee chairperson. You can find their name under the Congressional Directory. In the letter talk about your organizations expertise. You can also go to the link below to send a letter online.

  2. Step 2

    In the letter talk about your organizations expertise. Point out the issues that you would like to focus on and give your point of view.

  3. Step 3

    If you gain the committees interest, you will be asked to submit a detailed summary of testimony that the members will look at before the hearing.

  4. Step 4

    If you are chosen to testify you will need to pick out a few key points that you want to bring to the committees attention. You will not have time to go over all of them.

  5. Step 5

    When you are done, then ask for questions. Be prepared for any questions and to make your answer to the point and brief.
