Saving money on groceries requires strategic use of coupons. If you don't know where to find coupons and how to get coupons for the products you want to buy, you are not using coupons efficiently. Save more money and improve your coupon 'game' with these tips.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Sign up for cell phone coupons. Cellfire.com delivers coupons directly to your cellphone that can be scanned at checkout. Cellfire allows you to link coupons for groceries to your store's loyalty card, making coupons painless and paperless. Cellfire does require free registration at their website and may not work with all cell phones.

  2. Step 2

Visit online coupon sites and sign up for coupons to be mailed to you. Redplum.com is one such service that offers a variety of coupons for groceries. Coupons are also available online and are usually for $1 or more off selected products.

  3. Step 3

Start a weekly coupon swap. This works well if you are a member of a mother or parenting group or have a large circle of friends. Set up a Yahoo list and ask everyone to post their coupons. Coupons for groceries can either be mailed to participants or you can meet regularly to swap coupons.

  4. Step 4

Keep up with savings message boards and blogs to stay abreast of good deals. PromotionalCodes.com is one such site that features coupon codes. Freeshipping.org is another savings site that gives out free shipping codes.

  5. Step 5

Subscribe to free magazines like Baby and American Baby because they are full of coupons and get your name on the mailing list for additional coupons. Plus, as your child grows, you'll receive other free publications with coupons for groceries geared to older kids.

  6. Step 6

Sign up at company websites to be put on their mailing lists. In addition, if you can't find any coupons for a specific company, call their 800 number and ask for some. Also, if you ever have issues with a product, retain the package and call the company to complain. The vast majority of companies will issue a full value coupon to replace bad product. Being able to give companies the batch date off the packaging will help legitimize these type of coupon requests.

  7. Step 7

Buy coupons from places like ebay so long as the amount paid for the coupon doesn't erode the savings too much.

  8. Step 8

Be patient. Like anything, there is a learning curve. It will take some time to figure out what websites are reliable or helpful and how the coupon 'game' works.

Tips & Warnings
  • The websites listed here are just a sampling of the dozens of websites devoted to saving you money. Be sure to shop around for additional sites, but be sure your anti-virus protection is up-to-date as some coupon sites are a bit shady.
