If your host is picking up the tab, follow her lead on the price range of your dish. Alternatively, order something in the middle of the restaurant's price range. Also, gauge your host's attitude on alcohol. For example, if the meal is part of a job-interview process, don't order alcohol.
-
4
Talk about non-controversial topics. Brainstorm a few "safe" topics -- movies, travel -- before you arrive.
-
5
Be polite to your server, whose job is to make your meal pleasant. Do not blame her issues outside her control.
-
6
When using flatware, remember to start with the utensils on the outside and work your way in toward the plate.
-
7
If you are paying the bill, tip appropriately, usually about 15 to 20 percent of the pre-tax total.
