Making a surfboard headboard is a simple way to decorate your bedroom. Depending on the size of your bed and the available wall space, you can hang one board or two joined boards horizontally behind your bed, or connect three boards and hang them vertically. Old wooden surfboards have a lot of charm, but you can also refinish any type of board to coordinate with your room's décor.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2 surfboards
  • Measuring tape
  • Saw
  • 3 wood strips
  • Screws and screw driver
  • Adhesive
  • Wall mounts and hooks
  1. Step 1

Place the surfboards face down in a row with the sides touching. If you plan to refinish your boards, it's easier to do so before you connect them.

  2. Step 2

Measure and cut three strips of 2-inch-by-2-inch hardwood to fit across the backs of both surfboards to join them together. You need to place one strip in the center and one strip close to each end before the boards begin to curve inward.

  3. Step 3

Attach the wood strips to the surfboards with screws, if the surfboards are made from wood, and with strong adhesive such as Liquid Nail if the boards are not made from wood. Let the adhesive dry.

  4. Step 4

Attach one wall hook to the center of each of the three wood strips with wood screws. Make sure to attach the hooks vertically or horizontally, depending on the way you plan to hang your headboard.

  5. Step 5

Find at least one wall stud to hang your surfboard behind your bed. Attach the wall mounts to the wall with at least one inserted into a stud. Space the remaining wall mounts in line with the remaining two hooks on the surfboard.

  6. Step 6

Attach your surfboard headboard to the wall.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can refinish your surfboards to match your room décor by lightly sanding the boards, then priming and painting them. Consider stenciling patterns onto the boards or attaching vinyl decals for added design, especially for a child's room.
  • Handle old wooden surfboards with care and wear protective gloves, as wood splinters might be present but not visible.
