Spa treatments may be enjoyable for your body, but they're not always enjoyable for your wallet. Save your money and treat yourself to smooth, glowing skin by making your own body scrubs with ingredients from your pantry.
Things You'll Need
- Sugar or sea salt
- Non-cooking oil, such as apricot kernel, almond, baby or grapeseed
- Fragrance, essential oil and/or pure kitchen extracts
- Container with lid
Measure two cups of the sugar or salt you are using for the base into a bowl. For a more professional look, use a mix: try one cup raw sugar with one cup white granulated sugar; one cup sea salt with one cup Epsom salts; or one cup sugar and one cup salt.
Pour oil over the base to saturate it. Use non-cooking oil so the scrub will not smell strongly of heavy food oil. You want the fragrance to come through, not to smell like dinner. If you pour too much oil, just add a little more base.
Add a few drops of essential oil, fragrance or extract. Try mixing and matching: a few drops of vanilla extract, almond extract and peppermint essential oil will create a fresh, not-too-sweet scrub.
Transfer the scrub to your container and replace the lid. If you want to keep the scrub in your shower, use a plastic container.
You can apply the scrub to your body before you step into the shower, or in the shower itself. Use circular motions to exfoliate your body's dead skin. Rinse off. Your skin will feel soft, not greasy.
