Instructions

    • 1

Prepare the cake according to the instructions on the box. Remove the cake from the pan once it has cooled completely. Lay a cutting board on top of the cake so that it doesn't break and flip the pan upside down. Gravity will make the cake drop out of the cake pan and onto the cutting board.

    • 2

Place the cake on a serving platter that has been covered with parchment paper. Turn the cake so the widest part is facing you. Cut a piece of cake measuring 1-inch wide off of the right and left side and set it aside for the moment.

    • 3

Use the knife to cut from one corner of the cake to the other until you have four equal sized triangles.

    • 4

Create the body by placing the smallest cake strip in the middle. Use the cupcake for the head of the butterfly. Arrange the triangles so the narrow part of each is touching the body and the widest part faces out so they resemble butterfly wings.

    • 5

Ice the cake. Be creative and make designs in the wings with a toothpick. Use frosting pens to fill in these designs. Place small M&Ms on top of the cupcake for the eyes.

    • 6

Decorate the wings with candies like bright skittles, Nerds, and M&Ms. Use red licorice for antennae.

    • 7

Sprinkle pink or yellow edible glitter on the cake so that you get a shimmery decorative effect.
