Decorate your child's walls with appealing lettering.

Lettering adds personality to a child's room: you can personalize the walls with your child's name or display any words that reflect your child's interests. Creating decorative letters to hang on the wall of a child's room does not take special artistic ability. While many different websites and stores sell finished, decorative lettering, you can also easily make custom letters for your child's room or nursery.

Instructions

    • 1

Create a pattern for each of the letters that you wish to make, in the exact font and size, using a word processing program. Carefully cut the letters out of the paper after printing.

    • 2

Lay the paper letter patterns on pieces of balsa wood and trace around them with a pencil.

    • 3

Place the wood pieces on a hard, protected surface, so that the surface beneath the wood will not be damaged during cutting.

    • 4

Trace around the penciled outlines, using a box cutter. The letters will need to be traced several times before they will completely break free of the boards.

    • 5

Sand around the edges of the letters, to create smooth sides.

    • 6

Set the letters on pieces of acid-free scrapbook paper and trace around them with a pencil.

    • 7

Cut the letter tracings out of the paper.

    • 8

Adhere the paper tracings to the wooden letters, using Mod Podge. Smooth out any wrinkles or air bubbles.

    • 9

Add three-dimensional stickers and other embellishments to the letters, after the Mod Podge is dry. Most anything that you choose can be attached with a hot-glue gun.

    • 10

Hot-glue a looped length of ribbon to the back of each letter, for hanging.
