How to Ping a Website

Pinging is a way for search engines to update themselves quickly when you change your website content. Ping your website after any major changes so that you can get that information to the search engines as soon as possible. The quicker you ping, the quicker you get higher search engine slots. Bloggers should especially take heed, as they update frequently. You can ping your website in a few steps.

      Navigate to Ping -O-Matic (Pingomatic.com), a ping service specially made for bloggers. To ping a website, enter your blog name, the blog address and your RSS URL, if you have one. Then click "Check all" and "Send pings" and start pinging.

      Look for other ping sites. To get as much exposure on as many websites as possible, you want to ping other ping sites. For instance, Ping-O-Matic doesn't ping everything. You can ping your own site from Windows. To do so, navigate to the "Start" menu and select "Run." In the Run dialog, type "cmd" (without quotes) and click "OK." The Command Prompt dialog opens.       To ping Google, navigate to Google Tools (google.com/webmasters/tools/home?hl=en) and command Google to index your site. When you make updates, you must use Google Tools to inform Google that your site has been updated.
