How to Make Braided Belt Rope
Making your own braided belt out of paracord rope is a multifunctional craft activity. In addition to the fun of creating the belt, you are also left with a belt to wear. Perhaps more importantly, by wearing your paracord belt on any nature trips, you are bringing along a resourceful cord that can be used in a pinch for anything from constructing traps to making a shelter.
Things You'll Need
- Paracord rope
- Belt buckle with single fastening rod
- Belt tip clamp, 3/4" wide
Instructions

1
Fold a piece of paracord in half, and pass the two loose ends of the cord through the belt buckle on either side of the metal belt-fastening rod. The cord should pass over the buckle on the end from which the rod pivots, and the folded end of the paracord should be pointing out of the belt buckle in this direction.
-
2
Pass the two loose ends around the buckle and through the loop created by the folded end, and pull tight against the buckle to secure the cord to the buckle.
-
-
3
Repeat Steps 1 and 2 for the remaining pieces of cord, with one cord being fastened to the buckle on either side of the first cord. These cords will not straddle the fastening rod like the first cord did, rather one will have both ends above the rod, and one will have both ends below the rod.
-
4
Hold the buckle so that the six pieces of cord hang straight down from it.
-
5
Pass the right-most piece of cord over the piece of cord next to it, then under the piece of cord next to that, and pull tight.
-
6
Pass the left-most piece of cord over the piece of cord next to it, then under the piece of cord next to that, and over the piece of cord next to that, and pull tight.
-
7
Repeat Steps 5 and 6 until the belt is long enough to fit around your waist with a few inches to spare.
-
8
Cut the ends of cord straight across. Clamp them together with the belt tip to complete your belt.
