How to Make Glue at Home

Making glue at home is easy to do and doesn't take much time or effort. Using just a few household items, you should have no trouble creating a sticky, gooey batch. The glue from this recipe is white when it dries. By adding food coloring at the end, you can change the color. However, if you are looking for a glue that dries clear, this will not work.

Things You'll Need

  • ½ cup skim milk
  • 2 tbsp. white vinegar
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. hot water
  • Measuring cup
  • Measuring spoons
  • Coffee filter
  • Small microwaveable bowl
  • Small cup
  • Spoon
  • Small, airtight container
  • Pour milk into a small bowl. Heat in microwave for 20 seconds.

  • Add vinegar to the milk and then set the bowl aside for a few minutes to allow the milk to separate into curds and whey. The curds are the white lumps and the whey is the yellowish liquid.

  • Place the coffee filter over a small cup pushing it in slightly to form a bowl. Pour the separated milk over the filter. The whey will seep through while the curds are captured.

  • Once you have emptied the bowl, fold the coffee filter around the curds and squeeze gently to remove the remaining whey. Place curds back in the empty bowl and discard the whey.

  • Stirring constantly, mix in the baking soda and hot water. Stir until you have removed the curds and created a creamy glue. Add more water to make it thinner and more baking soda to make it thicker.

  • Store in an airtight container to keep the glue from drying out.
