MSN Hotmail, sometimes called Windows Hotmail or simply Hotmail, revolutionized web-access email in the late 1990s, becoming of the first email providers. MSN Hotmail offers free web-access email accounts as well as premium email accounts with no ads and higher storage. Learn how to get started and set up your MSN Hotmail account today.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Visit the MSN Hotmail website by going to www.hotmail.com. You can also access the Hotmail sign-up by going to www.msn.com and clicking the Hotmail link on the left side of the screen. Click on the "Sign Up" tab.

  2. Step 2

Choose "@Hotmail" as your email domain. MSN offers email addresses at Live.com as well as Hotmail.com, so you need to select the drop-down menu and make sure Hotmail is selected. Fill out the additional required information, such as your name, date of birth and desired username and password. Agree to the terms and conditions and fill out the "Captcha" puzzle before submitting.

  3. Step 3

Sign into your new Hotmail email account by going back to the login screen. Remind friends and family members that you have a new email address; they may forget and send email to your old address.

Tips & Warnings
  • Think about your email username. You have no way to change it once it is set. Make sure it is professional enough to put on a resume when you are job-searching or you may have to create a separate business email address.
  • Be careful when choosing your password. Choose a password containing a series of numbers and letters. Avoid easy passwords that could allow others into your account.
