How to Ping Using a MAC
Being able to ping can be helpful to troubleshoot network issues. You can test your connection to the Internet or the path to individual IPs by pinging them and waiting for a response. This eliminates lengthy troubleshooting steps by finding exactly what you can and can not reach. Ping is used widely on Windows computers but if you are new to the MAC world it may take some getting use to. The option to ping an IP is just as easy using a MAC.

Open Finder and go to the applications folder. Double click the Utilities folder and choose Network utility.

Scroll down to the Ping option. You do have a choice to send a few or nonstop ping to the IP. There is a spot to put in your IP and click the ping button.

You can accomplish this same process faster using shortcuts. To start off press the command button and space together. It will open the spotlight. Type in network utility and hit the open button. From here it is about the same. Pick how many pings you want to send, add the IP, and click ping.
