How to Identify a Robin Eggs Nest

The Robin is one of the singing birds who arrive in early spring from their migration route. Robin birds generally build their nests anywhere: the top of a tree, on a rose bush, a house window, even on the lawn. They eat berries, worms and insects. When it comes to building a nest, this is the female Robin responsibility. If you have spotted a bird's eggs nest in your house, use these tips to identify if it belongs to a Robin.

1. Determine if the bird building the nest is a Robin. The Robin bird has an orange color breast and the back and legs are brown. In the male Robin these colors are much brighter than in the females. The Robin bird has round shaped wings for quick flights. Look at what the bird is feeding on, Robin diet consists of berries and worms for the most part.

2. Note the shape of the nest and which materials are used for its construction. The Robin's nest is shaped like a cup and is made of mud plus grass. The bird adds a layer of grass on top of the finished nest.

3. Look at the eggs that have been laid on the nest and note their color. Robin bird eggs are a blue color, generally the bird lays anywhere from three to six eggs. The eggs incubation period is around 10 to 14 days. The female Robin sits on the eggs and the male brings food and keeps a watch on the nest during incubation.

4. Use a bird's guide to identify a Robin eggs nest. Find a bird's guide online or in bookstores. Make sure to use a guide that is specific to your geographical region. Robin birds generally live and migrate to Alaska, Mexico and North America.
