How to Benefit from the Government's Free Cell Phone Program
The U.S. Government has partnered with a well-know phone company TracFone Wireless and SafeLink Wireless, to provide free phones and service to low-income and families in need. More than 1,000,000 low income families will benefit.
The program gives each recipient a free phone and up to 250 free minutes per month. The participants have to option of purchasing more minutes if so desired. The free phone service is for a period of one year, to help ease the burden of phone bills during this recession.

You must apply to benefit: You can apply for the cell phone, if you are receiving Food Stamps, Aid to Dependent Children, Disability or if your family income falls below the national average. Also, displaced families and those living in areas of natural disasters are eligible.

Use the phone to handle your affairs: Use the phone to look for employment and schedule appointments. Displaced and elderly people, can keep in touch with family members. Women of abuse, can use the phone to call the domestic abuse hot line offered by the phone service provider.

You receive a free phone: You can purchase more phone time, when the allotted minutes run out. The program is renewed year to year if necessary. If you no longer need the program, you will get to keep the phone.

The process has been made easy: One great benefit of the government program, is that those desiring to participate, do not have to go downtown to fill out an application. An application can be submitted on line or over the telephone.

William Petry I agree with her, I think your a selfish man. What the hell is wrong with you? We are a super power are we not.. So what if we have to shut down most of our post offices, and our schools and close down military bases. Our country is loaded with money... I think its down right embarrassing that we don't supply a satellite dish and, pay for a fitness center. We already pay for the school lunches. What the hell is your problem.

William Petry You do have to submitt proof of public assistance, unemployment, or tax return showing low income, in order to be approved and receive the phone & minutes before they send it. Then submitt proof ea yr there after to remain on program. I helped my Senior Grandma get one for when she was in car alone, just in case.

Some aren't moochers as you call it...yes, some are. What makes me sick is when someone who has worked all their life and then finds themselves hurt and not able to work, can't get any kind of help at all, even though they paid for it for 35 years. They paid into the system, and can't get disability or health insurance, the least the government can do is give them a phone. Just like the unemployment situation...how dare the government complain about it, the money was there, the people put the money in and the employers they worked for....now those same people need it, and can't get it because the government spent it on something else, such as congress vacations or big bonus's.....if the people put the money in, they shouldn't have to fight for it, or go to court, or lose everything they do have before getting disability. You people need to do your homework and research before knocking down people who need help...because if you were you wouldn't be posting this stuff, and showing your ignorance :)

William Petry ...those folks that are riding around in mercedes and using food stamps have probably purchased the food stamps from people who are trying to pay their electricity by selling some stamps for cash.
