Starting a business isn't easy, but if you take action to do so, great things will come to you. The first step that you want to take is by looking at what you want to do with your business. Do you want to do something that you enjoy (which I recommend) or do you want to follow the money?

Write down 3- 5 business ideas that interest you. For example, let's say that you love to fish. I would think of a tackle shop, a marina, fishing tour, etc. The list is endless, no matter what you like to do. I highly recommend you choose your hobby as a business, it will make it a lot better for you.

Once you think you know what you want to do, you'll want to research the market. Do you want to stick around your hometown? Do you want to move? You'll want to explore how much competition is in your area. Remember that competition is healthy, but could destroy your business. A 20 year old business is harder to compete with because of the loyal customers, etc.

Find the competitors in your area, and stop by. People in the same business love to talk with others that are interested, as long as you're not invading their turf. As them how they like it, if it's worth it, etc. Ask many questions to get your answers.

Obviously I can't write about everything in one article, but the last step that you want to do is start your business plan. Your business plan should be long, and advanced, showing where you'll be in the future. Also, make sure that you do research on market, and everything else in between.
