Prepaid Master Cards and Visa's are easy to find. Start with any grocery store including WalMart. Be armed with some basic information and you are on your way to having a prepaid credit card.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Cash
  • Intended use for card
  1. Step 1

There are 2 basic types of prepaid Visa's. The first is reloadable and the second is one time use only. If you plan to spend monthly with your credit card then reloadable is the choice for you. If you just need a card for one time use then unreloadable is the best choice. Decide which one you want and go to merchant to purchase the card.

  2. Step 2

The Prepaid Visa and Master Cards can be found at WalMart, grocery stores, Walgreens, and many discount stores. Once you have decided on how you will use the card, purchase it and you are ready to activate it for use. Terms do vary. The cards will have additional fees for use that typically range from 50 cents to 3.00 so be careful here. You want to be as cost effective as possible.

  3. Step 3

To purchase the cards you must be at least 18 years old. You may add funds to your reloadable card at the location of your purchase. There is a number on the back of your card to call with questions and a website that will be listed as well. Reloadable cards are a great way to keep track of spending and or for a budget. Nonreloadable are great for one time use.

Tips & Warnings
  • Check to see if your merchant accepts the Visa or Master Card Prepaid
  • Usable at hundreds of locations
  • Easier than keeping track of cash
  • Not accepted everywhere online
  • Fees to use the cards vary
  • Pay cash to purchase the cards

on 11/3/2009 As a writer for Mango Money, a prepaid MasterCard, I would like to add a subtle detail to this article. There are websites online where you can purchase prepaid cards too.

Before buying a card, compare the fees found at retail stores versus the online stores.

If you need the card today, then a brick-and-mortar store is a great solution. If you can wait a week for your card to come in the mail, it may be worth the wait.

Best,
Kim
