Listen to a Radio Station on Your Computer

Online radio stations provide free access to different categories such as rock, oldies and talk radio. The convenience of radio on a computer is immeasurable. With decent speakers and a fairly new PC, you can listen while doing homework, working or even housework. You can choose your own music, and the commercials are infrequent. Within two or three minutes, you can begin listening to radio on your computer.

Instructions

    • 1

Download Real Player and the latest version of Windows Media Player (see Resources below). Some online radio stations use Real Player, Windows Media Player or their own application. Installing these programs will allow you to listen to the radio station quicker.

    • 2

Go to an online radio station website. Radio Tower, MTV Online Radio and Pandora Radio (see Resources below) are free sites. Pandora is unusual because you can create your own radio station. You insert the artist or song, and Pandora creates a station around similar content.

    • 3

Select the genre. A list of radio stations will populate. Read the description and click on the station or press the "Play" button.

    • 4

Wait a couple of seconds for the media player to begin. The radio station will begin playing the music. You cannot skip songs or pass advertisements.

Tips & Warnings

  • Some radio station websites prompt you to install an add-on to your browser. Select "Yes" and follow the on-screen instructions.
