How to Do Clip Art on the Computer

Save

Clip art consists of little symbols and icons, usually seen online. Most web pages have clip art to one extent or another. You can download free clip art you can use, but if you want the clip art on your page to be uniquely yours, you will want to make your own using a graphics program like Photoshop.

Things You'll Need

  • Photoshop
  • Open Photoshop. Then select "File" and click "New." In the dialog box that opens, make the pixel width and height whatever you want the size of the clip art to be on your page. Make the resolution 72 and the background "Transparent."

  • Select the "Custom Shapes" tool. Go to the options at the top and choose the shape you want for those offered. If your list is short, you can click on the little drop down arrow and add more shape libraries.

  • Chose your "Foreground" color in the toolbar. Now use the "Custom Shape" brush to paint the shape onto the canvas. You can select more shapes and add them in other layers. You can also use the "Blending Options" to add layer effects like "Bevel and Emboss" and "Drop Shadow." When you are done, save your image as either a PNG or a GIF to preserve the transparency.
