How to Cure Back Acne Scars

Back acne is a common problem affecting thousands of individuals. Like the acne on one's face, back acne can also lead to scarring. There are basically three different types of acne scars that can affect an individual: flat areas of hyperpigmentation, ice pick scars that resemble indentations in the skin, and keloids, which are raised scars that are probably the most prominent of all types. Depending on the type of scar, treatments can range from relatively simple to very complex. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Fade the flat areas of hyperpigmentation with a skin-bleaching lotion. Hydroquinone is a potent skin-lightening cream that must be prescribed in its most powerful form. You can purchase a less-potent version at a drugstore. Rub about a drop of the cream onto each scar, massaging deeply into the skin. Apply it twice a day for the best results. It may take up to a month or more before you begin to see results.

    • 2

Get a chemical peel. This causes the older and damaged layer of skin to peel off, and reveal scar-free skin underneath. You should have a dermatologist or licensed skincare professional do the chemical peel for it to be most effective.

    • 3

Get collagen injections for ice pick scars. Because these types of scars are basically depressions in the skin, they must be filled in to be cured. Punch grafts and fat transfers are two other treatment methods for ice pick scars. Punch grafts are basically skin grafts that are inserted into the skin depressions. Fat transfers involve taking excess fat from other parts of the body and injecting into the skin to fill out and elevate scars.

    • 4

Have the scars surgically removed. If the scars are bumpy keloid-type scars, you may have no choice but to have them excised by a physician. In this procedure, the scars are carefully cut off, and then medication is given to allow the skin to heal properly.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you have oily hair, keep it off of your back as much as possible. The oil from the hair may lead to clogged pores and more acne lesions.

  • Make sure to consult a dermatologist for the best treatment options for your unique case.
