How to Copy and Paste Pictures into Microsoft Documents

Copying and pasting pictures, photos, or any images is a basic computer skill. If you don't have this skill, here's how to perform this function. You'll be copying and pasting between applications like a pro.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer running any Windows operating system version
  • Any Windows graphics software such as Paint.
  • Any Windows application for the office such as Word.
  1. Step 1

    In this example, we will use Microsoft Paint and Microsoft WordPad or Write. Paint and Wordpad is in all versions of Windows. You can use any Windows graphic software from any company to copy and paste images to virtually any Windows application that handles word processing.

  2. Step 2

    Locate a file that you want to copy. Clicking on it will open up the file with a default program. In this example, we will use Microsoft Paint. Got to Start, All Programs, Accessories, and select Paint. Go to File in the Main Menu and select Open. Locate the picture file, select it and click Open. The picture will be added to the workspace.

  3. Step 3

    Open up Wordpad and minimize it. We will use it soon.

  4. Step 4
     

    In Paint, click on Edit and click on Select All. This will select the entire picture. Go to the same menu, Edit, and select Copy.

  5. Step 5

    Go to the Wordpad and maximize the screen by clicking Wordpad on the bottom of Windows.

  6. Step 6
     

    In Wordpad, click on Edit in the Main Menu and click on Paste.

  7. Step 7
     

    The picture will be copied in Wordpad. Shown is an example. Clicking on the picture selects it and can see an outline and black marks around the picture. Click and drag any of the black marks to resize the picture.

  8. Step 8

    These steps can be repeated for any graphic or picture software and any office application that runs on Windows.
