It is important how we express out thoughts with someone. Good verbal and nonverbal communication is essential when talking with a business associate,friend or family. This will ensure the message is effectively received.

The process starts with knowing what the situation is and responding to it. You need to interpret the message from the other person by listen to what they are saying. This can be done through their body language,facial gestures,eye contact and the sound of their voice.

Using verbal Listening skills you need to listen what they are saying and determine what state of mind they are in. You need to establish a rapport and ask them what the problem is. Keep outside noise or excessive mannerisms to a minimum this can distract from the verbal communication and cause a different frame of reference to the problem. If it is a difficult situation take into consideration fatigue,anxiety,or even fear that can be causing the situation. Make sure to listen to the pitch of their voice. Their voice can indicate pain, depression, and many other emotions.

Their non verbal communication is key to understanding the situation and being able to react in a positive manner. This is important so that the sharing of information will reflect in your emotions and what decisions you have to make. Body language is how people communicate through physical appearance,posture,and gestures. You can determine this by how far they are from you or the other person they are in conflict with. Touching the person on the shoulder or holding their hand can be a powerful non verbal skill.
